First responders train in Beaumont to manage stress after disasters

First responders from Southeast Texas and the Houston area attended Critical Incident Stress Management training at Beaumont’s Real-Time Crime Center.
The program focuses on Critical Incident Stress Management to help officers, EMTs, and dispatchers cope with traumatic calls.
Det. Tina Lewallen said responders often push aside emotions during crises but may feel them after the crisis ends.
Det. Erica Orta noted peer and administrative support helps first responders open up about their experiences.
Organizers said the training aims to keep responders healthy and serving the public amid regional losses.
