Apollo Beach to the stars: Third grader's artwork heads to the International Space Station on SpaceX mission

Eeshan Kallu, a Hillsborough County third grader, won the district competition to design a SpaceX mission patch for SSEP Mission 21.
The winning patch shows an astronaut and rocket over the moon and stars, symbolizing microgravity.
The patch will fly to the ISS this August and spend about four to six weeks in orbit.
The project is part of a broader effort to engage students in STEAM education across hundreds of participants.
Maddox Sewell from Turkey Creek Middle School also won in the 6th–8th grade category.
The mission patch is expected to be part of a SpaceX flight launching from Kennedy Space Center's Launch Complex 39A.
Kallu’s teacher, Darcy Lane, highlighted his dual passion for science and art.
The project aims to demonstrate that ordinary students can contribute to space exploration.
The project includes an official certificate and return of the artwork after its spaceflight.
