6 Dead After Transit Bus Becomes 'Engulfed in Flames' Following Head-On Collision with Pickup Truck on Calif. Highway

Six people died and one was seriously injured when a Toyota Tacoma collided head-on with a Tehama County transit bus on Highway 99W near Red Bluff.
The bus caught fire and became engulfed in flames after the head-on crash, according to CHP and fire officials.
Investigators said it is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
The crash occurred around 10:00 a.m. on January 14, 2026, on Highway 99W south of Gyle Road.
Cal Fire and Tehama County Fire Department assisted at the scene and helped with the response.
Highway 99W was reopened after the investigation and cleanup were completed.
Officials did not immediately identify the bus passengers; identities were being withheld pending notifications.
Tehama County Transit suspended all transit services for the rest of the day as a precaution.
Officials stated the crash remains under investigation as more details are gathered.
