Philanthropist, College of Education alum Harry B. Kropp passes away at age 84 | Penn State University

Harry B. Kropp, a Penn State College of Education alumnus and philanthropist, has died at age 84.
The Kropp–Legutko Award for Student Teaching was created in 2016 to support aspiring teachers.
The award honors undergraduates who show professional promise during student teaching at Penn State.
Harry Kropp was a State College native who earned a degree in secondary education in 1963.
Kropp also taught in Greenwich, Connecticut, in the FLES program before moving to a general elementary classroom.
The couple retired in 2003 and later volunteered with Penn State's LGBTQA Center and Catholic Campus Ministry.
Harry B. Kropp and Ed Legutko were married in Provincetown in 2005 after Massachusetts recognized marriage equality.
The couple shared 59 years together and were active in campus and community causes.
Donations in Kropp’s memory support Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, The Trevor Project, and Penn State’s Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity.
The Penn State College of Education mourns the loss of a longtime educator and donor who supported future teachers.
