URI’s Abby Benson honored as Providence Business News’ ‘Woman to Watch’

Abby Benson was named Providence Business News’ Woman to Watch for education at the 2026 Business Women Awards luncheon.
PBN recognized Benson at a May luncheon for her role in strengthening URI’s financial foundation.
She led a university-wide balanced budget initiative and helped implement a new budget model.
Benson also helped develop URI’s campus plan and oversaw more than $1 billion in capital projects.
The award cited Benson’s leadership in recruiting senior leaders across finance, facilities, IT, and procurement.
URI’s Abby Benson thanked the URI community for making the university exceptional.
The ceremony was held at the Marriott Providence in late May.
URI is a flagship institution planning modern campus facilities for the next two decades.
Benson oversees more than $1 billion in capital planning and major projects.
The award recognizes leaders across education, government, and nonprofit sectors.
