LSU to Open $148M Science Building This Fall

LSU will open the $148 million science building this fall, expanding space for STEM teaching and research.
The project is funded with $105 million from the state and $43 million from donors, including FMOL Health | Our Lady of the Lake.
The facility will house laboratories and spaces supporting biology, chemistry, geology, math, physics and astronomy.
LSU aims to raise its profile in STEM and move toward a top-50 national research university.
The building includes the Ann & Billy Harrison Trace Metals Lab and the LSU Theoretical Institute for quantum information theory.
EskewDumezRipple, a New Orleans architecture firm, designed the building.
LSU officials say the space will help recruit scientists and researchers to Louisiana.
The facility will include a student commons with on-site dining and a garden featuring rainwater harvesting.
The project will open to students in the 2026-27 academic year.
