Meta sues Ofcom over fines regime for breaches of Online Safety Act

Meta is suing Ofcom in the UK over how fees and fines under the Online Safety Act are calculated.
The company argues charges should not be based on global revenue and seeks a judicial review in the High Court.
Under the act, breaches can be fined up to 10% of qualifying worldwide revenue or £18m, whichever is higher.
Meta is seeking a judicial review of Ofcom’s decision in the High Court.
Ofcom defends the regime as a plain reading of the law and plans to robustly defend its reasoning.
A hearing on the matter is scheduled for October 13-14.
