Jewelry, watches and cash in golf bags seized in Zapatero case

Spain’s National Police searched Zapatero’s Ferraz Street office as part of the Plus Ultra case, uncovering jewellery, watches and diaries in a safe.
Officers seized diaries, hard drives and company folders during the office inspection, along with other documents.
In a separate probe, police found €286,070 in cash at the Madrid home of Julio Martínez Martínez, described as a friend and alleged front man
The cash was distributed across bags, boxes and even a radiator, with several large sums hidden in unexpected places.
Investigators tied the case to alleged influence-peddling linked to the Plus Ultra bailout during the pandemic.
Zapatero says the seized items were inherited or gifts and kept at the Ferraz Street office for lack of a home safe.
Judge José Luis Calama ordered four searches on 19 May as part of the ongoing investigation.
The probe also targets other people connected to Zapatero's circle, including his personal secretary.
Zapatero described the affair as a persecution and defended the items as inherited or gifts from trips and family.
The probe includes accounts of other companies allegedly used to conceal the origin of funds connected to Zapatero's circle.
