Hyundai breaks ground on the Future Mobility Battery Campus in Anseong, marking progress on a major battery R&D hub.
The KRW 1.2 trillion campus targets completion by end of 2026 as Hyundai internalises core battery capabilities.
The campus spans about 197,000 square metres with a 111,000 square metre total floor area in Anseong's Fifth General Industrial Complex.
The facility will enable internalising battery capabilities, including cell design and process engineering.
Research will incorporate AI-based predictive modelling and big-data analytics to improve accuracy.
Hyundai signed an MoU with Gyeonggi Province, Anseong City and Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation to build a regional battery ecosystem.
The project aligns with Hyundai's goal to strengthen EV battery competitiveness and global electrification.
Initial focus areas include high-performance lithium-ion cells for EVs and extended-range EVs with plans to expand.
The facility will support cross-industry collaboration and accelerate technological advancement.
