Brits have new driving test rules with three restrictions to tackle 600,000 driver backlog

The UK has introduced new driving test rules to reduce a backlog of over 600,000 learner drivers awaiting tests.
From May 12, only the learner can book and manage their driving test, ending instructor-led bookings.
Learners are limited to two changes to their booking before they must cancel and rebook.
From June 9, learners can only move their tests to their three nearest local centres.

Military driving instructors were previously drafted to help reduce waiting lists.
The backlog and changes apply to car driving tests, not in Northern Ireland.
DVSA notes average wait times were nearly six months across the UK, per Sky News reporting.
The measures are part of ongoing efforts to reduce delays and prevent slot exploitation.
