HK’s first homegrown space payload off to Tiangong space station

Hong Kong's first locally developed scientific payload was launched to the Tiangong space station aboard Tianzhou 10.
The payload is a lightweight, high-resolution instrument designed to monitor greenhouse gases.
The mission will monitor greenhouse gas concentrations to support carbon reduction policies.
The Tianzhou 10 cargo spacecraft carried about 700 kilograms of fuel and 6.2 metric tons of mission essentials.
The launch took place from the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site in Hainan province.
The mission helps Hong Kong demonstrate local capability in advanced scientific instrumentation.
The payload will be deployed on Tiangong for research and applications aboard the space station.
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology led the team behind the carbon observatory.
The launch occurred on Monday morning, May 11, 2026.
