SUNY Canton announces automotive service technician pre-apprenticeship program

SUNY Canton launches a no-cost automotive service technician pre-apprenticeship program for this spring.
The program is funded by a SUNY apprenticeship grant with support from Bill Rapp Chevrolet of Ogdensburg.
Participants will work with certified SUNY Canton instructor Mike Barney in the college’s automotive lab.
The program includes virtual instruction to earn an Essential Skills for the Workplace microcredential.
Off-site instruction will be provided by Bill Rapp Chevrolet Ogdensburg General Manager Brandon Kelley.
The pre-apprenticeship ends with employment resources and apprenticeship opportunities.
The program targets a broad audience, open to all ages and career stages.
Training covers engine repair, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, HVAC, and more through START program.
Dates and times for training span late April to early May.
The initiative highlights a direct education-to-employment pipeline for automotive work.
