VMDAEC Education Scholarship Foundation awarded seven scholarships to local high school seniors in 2026.
Recipients will pursue college, technical, or trade education in the A&N Electric Cooperative service area.
The foundation awarded $165,000 in scholarships across 92 high school seniors in the region this year.
Local recipients include Chris Lopez-Perez, Sarah Bentley, and others from Arcadia, Nandua, and Chincoteague.
"For 25 years, our electric cooperatives have invested in the young people we serve," said VMDAEC CEO Brian Mosier.
The program aligns with the cooperative principle of 'concern for community' and supports future leaders.
Since 2001, the foundation has awarded more than 1,350 scholarships totaling $1.4 million.
Scholarship funds are paid directly to the recipient institutions to help with tuition or room and board.
The 'Keeping the Lights On' license plate launched in 2018 boosted scholarship funding.
